Background of the Church
How it all started, During a holiday tip to Sierra Leone in 2005 Evangelist Ethel Kanu now senior pastor and founder of Gethsemane was having a prayerful moment as always and the Lord ministered to her saying on her return back to London she is to launch a ministry and carry out the Lords work.Back in London the thought was in her to do as the Lord commanded, she prayed and seek the lord daily to confirm his word again to her. During this time she was in regular contact with a sister whom she knew from her old congregation is Sierra Leone, unaware of what the lord had ministered to Evangelist Ethel to launch a ministry the sister visited Evangelist Ethel and told her the lord wants her to start a home cell. After hearing this Evangelist Ethel prayed to the lord and thanked him for confirming his word, during this time of prayer and worship she felt the lord’s presences and decided to carry out the lord’s work. With this vision the home cell was established on 24th December 2006 in a sister’s house consisting of only three members. With the three members she had, they pressed on the word of God and took encouragement from the word of God in Ephesians 4:3 “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace”.They obeyed the word and in doing so the lord blessed the home cell every week with a new member, their faith was developing strong as the bible said in Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” and in Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them” and because they obeyed the word indeed God was with them. The church has grown abundantly in the last years To God be the glory the congregation number is now consisting of 60 adults and 40 children and still increasing.
